FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION “Maggy in Majorca” for Best Alternative Performance" by E J Ouellette & Team Whole Music

Maggy in Majorca" © 2025 All Rights Reserved is an original instrumental composition by E J Edward Ouellette from the just released album The Fiddle Funnel Sessions.

Maggy in Majorca

The composition draws inspiration from the centuries-old movement and exchange of music among Ireland, Scotland and continental Europe, including the important role of traveling musicians as carriers and interpreters of traditional music. That history of music crossing borders is central to the spirit of Maggy in Majorca.

Ouellette's 5-string violin/fiddle performance remains grounded in Celtic fiddle language and ornamentation while the ensemble moves freely through Mediterranean color, elements of jazz improvisation and traditional instrumental expression. Flamenco acoustic guitar, saxophone, piano, percussion and the traditional string foundation create an intentional musical conversation across cultures and genres.

Rather than reproducing a traditional form, Maggy in Majorca uses those traditions as a point of departure—celebrating improvisation, cultural exchange, movement and the continuing evolution of fiddle music. A Trad Jam!
